This new file size limit for OneDrive will start rolling out by the end of January, and Microsoft expects it to be generally available by the end of this quarter. Thanks to differential sync, OneDrive now also saves bandwidth by only syncing the parts of large files with changes, rather than uploading the entire file all over again. All your files are backed up in Azure Storage, ensuring high availability and performance," the company explained today.
"We’ve achieved the 250 GB limit by optimizing storage for upload performance-each file is split into chunks and each piece is encrypted with a unique key.
The new file size limit will apply to both OneDrive for consumers and OneDrive for Business, as well as other Microsoft 365 apps such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams. As the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is still forcing many of us to work from home, the software giant has decided to raise the upload file size limit on OneDrive from 100GB to 250GB. Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage service is getting a bit more flexible this month.
